Melissa Laureion is now in her mid-thirties. She is average in stature, about 1.7 metres tall, but her figure is slim with well-trained muscles. Melissa's eyes are a deep green, almost brownish colour and her hair, which she usually keeps tied in buns to prevent it from getting in the way, is a fascinating silvery-blond colour. Her skin is always slightly tanned, signifying that Melissa spends a lot of time outdoors. She seldom wears jewelry of any sort.
By her nature Melissa is calm, logical and mild-mannered, but sometimes her temper is short and she can be easily angered by rude or obnoxious people. Although she is usually a bit wary of strangers, she enjoys the company of good friends and never refuses an offer for a mug of warm ale.
The history of Melissa Laureion.
Melissa is the second youngest child of Asander Laureion of Trinsic, a (retired) Paladin and Lady Damaris Laureion, who is a teacher in the Royal Conservatory of Britain. Although Melissa was born in Trinsic, the family moved to Britain for reasons unknown (possibly it had something to do with Melissa's father and the Paladins) when she was only two summers old. The family was rather wealthy, so the children received good tutoring in a variety of subjects when they were old enough. Melissa and her siblings also spent a lot of time in the Conservatory with their mother, and Melissa's older sister Antheia began her studies there at the age of 15.
Soon after Melissa's brother Phidias left to Moonglow to study the magical Arts. Since her younger sister Thaleia was only two years old at the time, Melissa's father was the only one to keep her company during the days. Since he was very disappointed with the fact that his only son hadn't chosen to continue in his footsteps as a Paladin, he began teaching the arts of battle to Melissa. Much to Asander's surprise, the young 10-year-old girl was enthusiastic about learning swordplay and battlefield tactics, and quickly proved to be quite an apt student.
However, since Melissa's mother and father needed someone at the house to look after Thaleia and the fighting academies of Serpent's Hold and Jhelom were so far away, they suggested that Melissa should also begin her studies in the Conservatory, and perhaps later move to study in the fighting schools. Melissa followed their advice and studied music and songwriting in the Conservatory for four years.
At the age of sixteen she finally decided to leave Britain. The following five years she spent in Serpent's Hold and the Lycaeum, studying the arts of war and magic and contemplating the teachings of Courage and Truth. Melissa's intention was to prepare herself well for the day she would attempt to join the Paladins of Trinsic as an Initiate. When that day finally came, it was not all she had expected, for the Paladins turned her away, explaining that she was not "what their Order was looking for". Although they did allow Melissa continue her training in Trinsic with the Paladins, she knew that their decision very likely had something to do with her father and his career as a Paladin.
The next few years Melissa spent adventuring all around Britannia. On one of her adventures she came across a group of people from the town of Deepwater, who were looking for Alexandra the Bard's missing sister. Melissa joined them and later that night she was approached by Cyndon Lyonsnake who offered her a job as a mercenary in Videric Gaveston's Trade Caravan. She accepted the offer and moved to live in Deepwater.
Later, when Lyonsnake retired from the Caravan, Videric promoted Melissa to the position of Mercenary Captain.
After Lord British and Nystul opened gateways to the new world, Melissa built a house there like so many others. The Trade Caravan settled to Cove, but since the new lands were quickly claimed by settlers, Melissa though it best to claim a piece of land near Yew, around the area where Deepwater was built in the old world.
However, thanks to the King's new laws, Melissa's services as a mercenary captain were not much needed anymore, so she again turned to a life of adventure, exploring the deadly dungeons and dark forests of Britannia.
A new career opportunity opened up a few years later, when Videric Gaveston's father, Lord Conrad Gaveston, claimed the township of Cove to his family. Melissa observed the people of Cove for some time and noticed that they had all but forgotten the ways of Virtue. She mentioned this to Lord Gaveston, and together they came to the conclusion that the town had use for someone who could bring the Virtues back into the hearts of the townspeople and enforce the King's laws if necessary. So now Melissa has taken up the office of the Magistrate of Cove, a position that she considers to be a great honour.
