Have a drink, stranger, and while you rest I shall tell you of our expanding village.

Cove is ruled by the Nobles, Baron Killian and Count Diaz, who are harsh masters and rule with an iron fist. They wield nearly endless power in the town and it is only limited by the Codex of Cove. But be warned, traveller, that they have ways to get around even the Codex!... After all, rumours have it that the Wardens themselves are but an instrument with which the Nobility controls the unruly masses...

You'l find that the local people arent virtuous at all but that doesnt mean they are outlaws, far from it. The society of Cove uses the Codex of Laws as their lives guide, not the Eight Virtues. From thy raised eyebrows I can tell that this part needs more explaning...

Scores of years spent living next to a large orcs fort have had their impact on Cove's population. The locals now value practicality above all other qualities. So naturaly they consider the philosophical concept of Eight Virtues as useless. But the peasantry cannot live without an idealogy or a life's guide... Shortly after the Gavestons family withdrew from Cove, the new rulers formed Wardens of Law, an institution meant to keep Order and Law in the town, with enough power and authority to easily crush any forms of crime and evil. They formed the new laws of Cove, which were later named the Codex of Cove. For one reason or the other, the Wardens soon turned into fanatical zealots who made it their quest and purpose to uproot and eradicate any crime or form of chaos. It were the Wardens who, using their great power and influence over the peasantry, elevated the Codex to its current, nearly worshipable status. That is why, traveller, I advise you read it carefuly, because neither the citizens nor the Wardens of Law show offenders any mercy. Mercy is considered a weakness in Cove...

Law and order are strictly enforced by the local Militia. The Guards are well trained, disciplined and very loyal to the Nobles. Yet there are whispers that it is the invisisble hands of the Wardens that in truth steer the Militia...

But dont let my words scare you, stranger. Travellers are welcome in Cove, especially in the Tradeport. Unless they arent human... After decades of fighting with the orcs, Covians developed hate and distrust towards all other races. Even Elves are looked upon with great suspiciousness.

The welcome you receive in main part of the town will be warm, yet the Tradeport will welcome you even warmer. After all, it is in the Tradeport Tavern that you are cozily sitting now. The man sitting near the door is the Lord of the Tradeport and influence in Cove matches those of the Nobles. Dont look suprised; his power comes from being loved by the people, while the nobility is feared.

But not all people working for the nobles are treated well... The Diplomats, the people receiveing largest salaries and who are closest to the nobility, are, for example, despised by the population. Again you look surprised, traveller. Dont be, remember what I told you earlier. Covians consider the Diplomates to be pampered people who dont know what hard work is. But in all honesty, that is a wrong opinion. Althought their toil isnt too demanding physicaly, I often see them sitting alone from day till dawn pondering and scheming. After all, alot of Cove's recent sucess is because of the cleverness of the Diplomats.

If it is work thou art after, Cove has much to offer. The Tradeport is always looking for more talented artisans or crafty merchants, the Militia is recruiting any able-bodied Covish people as the danger of orcs is ever-present. If you can read and write, then you may find work with the Wardens of Law or the Diplomats. Whichever career you choose, let me give you a final piece of advise: dont ever get into the way of the Nobles.

Now, dont you think it is time to pay for thy numerous drinks, traveller?
